About me
I started my nursing career as an LVN in 1992. I worked in the hospital on the medical floor in the height of the AIDS epidemic in Austin. I continued my education and received my ADN(2-year RN degree) in 1994. In 2008, I obtained my BSN (Bachelor of Science) degree through the University of Texas Medical Branch, Galveston.
I have been a nurse for over 30 years, in both acute and chronic direct patient care; hospital, clinic and home health. I am currently a nurse manager for a long-established health care group in the surrounding area, where I have been employed for 29 years.
Most of my care giving has been in adult medicine. Since 2012, I have nurse navigated the adult population that is at high risk for acute and chronic disease.
I have been a nurse manager for the last six of these years, guiding navigators in chronic care and transitions of care management for the adult population.
Through my tenure, I have realized a need for adult advance care planning and preparation. I have witnessed pain, much of which could have been avoided with the knowledge of treatment options. I have experienced deaths, that with the right knowledge, could have been much more peaceful to the patient and the family/friends. This realization, has driven me to share my expertise in the field of advance care planning.
My goal is to help people understand their options and prepare for end of life their way, while also unburdening family and friends with those tough decisions.
